Disney Days, Lyon’s Pancakes and a Poker Run
By Jim Sellers, Executive Director
What a weekend we have just had! I know we had a of lot visitors from all over the region. First, it was the second year of “Disney Days” from the dam to the edge of town. The pancakes were flipping and sausage was sizzling from the Lyons Club of Grand Lake. The donations collected will help fund all of their projects for the coming year. That includes scholarships and helping members of the Grand Lake community needing help from yard work to utility bills.
Then, of course, our neighbors to the South had big crowds for Country Fever. The Grand Lake Area Chamber of Commerce had a presence with a booth, funded by four of our members; The Chronicle of Grand Lake, Grand Lake RV Resort, McKibben and Company and Grand River Abstract. Your Chamber staff was represented by Kristal Hodges. She met folks from Wisconsin, Texas, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Ohio, Florida, California, Iowa, and Alabama while staffing the booth.
She directed many of these visitors to come up to Grand and visit Disney Days and the new Saturday Morning Market. Many came back by the booth later and said they enjoyed both events and visited other businesses in the area while they were here.
The “Fun in the Sun Poker Run” was one of the Chamber events that several people pre-registered for during the Pryor event. Remember, you can drive, bike or boat to all chit locations on both the 27th and 28th, ending up in Ugly’s Bar & Grill at Thunder Bay Marina by 5:30 p.m. on the 28th to get your cards. This promises to be a fun event and more details are now available at the Chamber office and the Chronicle. Save $10.00 by registering early. We will also have a contest for 3 different groups. First prize will be for the Best Dressed Crew, then The Oldest Crew and The Largest Crew. So, even if you have the worst winning hand we will reward you with at least $200 or with one of these other fun prizes.
Our next Membership Meeting is at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 26th at Cherokee Yacht Club. Our scheduled speaker is Mr. Lloyd Fields, the Secretary of Labor for the State of Oklahoma. This will be a good opportunity to hear about new rules changes impacting employers and employees. Please make your reservations now so the club will know how much food to prepare.
Due to high water we have had to reschedule the next Business After Hours gathering, originally scheduled to be held at Spring Valley Ranch on June 17th. The new date is July 15th between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. They are putting forth a lot of effort in order to show you a great time and showcase a great facility in the area.
NOTICE: If you do not have a current e-mail address on file with the Chamber you are missing out on a lot of information. We did miss a couple of announcements due to a problem with our membership management software but this has now been fixed.
