Jim Sellers’ Chamber Article 06-26-08

It is the busiest time of the year on Grand

It is all happening at the zoo, as the song goes. We are now in the busiest time of the year for all of Grand Lake. There is something for every one of all ages, boats, planes, and automobiles.

If you have not registered for the FUN IN THE SUN POKER RUN it is not too late to call the Chamber office or the Chronicle office and get your name on the list and save ten bucks. That is right! If you are on the list before midnight tonight (06/26/08) the run will cost you $50 instead of $60. See the ad in the Chronicle for all the details and get around to all the chip pick up stations and get the best chance to get the winning hand. Remember to be at Ugly’s Grill and Bar by 5:30 p.m. Saturday to get your hand.

And what is happening next week? OH YES, it is the week of the 4th of July, where the real summer fun begins. The water is warm and the sun is shining (well, most of the time). Everyone is making plans for Friday the BIG day. The schedule of events was sent out last week in our newsletter, if you did not get one you missed good information about what is going at the chamber. This also may mean you are not a member??? Anyway, the South Grand Lake Airport is a great starting point with the War Birds landing around 3:30 p.m.. The Fly Over starts at 7:00 p.m. and as the sun sets we get the jets and America’s best fireworks display. What a grand way to celebrate the birth of our nation!!!

Speaking of the newsletter, Kristal Hodges on our staff at the Chamber is doing a great job in promoting our member businesses and attracting more new businesses to invest in the Chamber. Plus, she is the one that puts the newsletter together and has done a great job on the membership directory that is at the printer now. Last weekend she was in Pryor during Country Fever and spoke to hundreds of visitor about our members services. Thanks Kristal for a great job well done!

Activities in a few weeks include the Construction Launch of the new GRDA Ecosystem and Education Building. On August 22nd at 10:00 a.m. there will be construction equipment on site to start the digging for the foundation of the 16,000 square foot project. We are very pleased to see this start as our Chamber will be located in this grand new structure. We will give you more details as they are known.

The Corporation Commission for the State of Oklahoma is offering workshops on the Brownfields Program that will assist property owners and prospective buyers or developers who need to deal with possible oil field or underground storage tank pollution on a property. The closest one to the lake area is in Tulsa July 10th at the Central Center at Centennial Park, 1628 E. 6th Street. For questions about this program you can call Jeff Meyers @ 405-522-2781.

MARKETING TIP OF THE WEEK:

Formulating and evaluating the goals of advertising campaigns only on a “Share of Market” basis, and failing to recognize “Share of Voice” as the single most important driver of market share. Share of voice, consisting of carefully targeted media at frequency levels that develop parity with competing brands, AND a compelling message is what we (in advertising and media) do for a client. Our work, when it is done well generates product sampling, store traffic, telephone calls, etc. Only brands, products and services, that deliver desired benefits to customers will improve market share.

HAVE A GREAT GRAND DAY!!!
